Composer, arranger, producer. A bass virtuoso that was born to funk. These are some of the words used to describe the thunderous, show-stopping thumb of bassist Preach, Armed with a passion to throw down over funky grooves, along with an infectious, charismatic personality, Preach has been known to wow an audience with his melodic, aggressive bass playing style. His stage persona has been known to make an audience groove. With a percussive style of approaching the bass guitar, along with an energetic performance, Preach’s sound has been compared to that of Larry Graham, Louis Johnson Bernard Edwards and Marcus Miller.
A native Washingtonian, Preach grew up in a circle of musical friends, as well as a family heavily oriented in the music scene. Being introduced to bass at a young age, Preach was encouraged by the older musicians in the neighborhood to listen up and down the radio to everything from funk, jazz, gospel, r&b, country, Latin, classical to rock. His technique to bass was influenced by the styles of the bassist from the early seventies and the late eighties. Working as an assistant technician for various independent production companies in the nineties, Preach developed an ear for arranging, then producing which landed him some critical recording sessions with various vocalist and bands. As a result of being a sought after producer, Preach started his production company Red Cave Music and quickly became one of the best-kept secrets on the Washington music scene.
